BuyaCar deals of the week

Want the absolute best value car for your money? Check out our pre-registered deals of the week that offer plenty of bang for your buck

Buying a brand new car has to be the most expensive way to change your wheels. If you don't fancy going for a used car, however, there is another, far better value way to get that new car smell and feel-good factor: pre-registered cars and new cars in stock.

Pre-registered cars, to all intents and purposes, are brand new, with less than 100 miles on the clock and being less than a year old. However, as they've been registered by a dealer - normally so the dealer can hit sales targets by selling the car to themselves - you are the second owner rather than the first.

In exchange for not being the first owner - and frankly, no one is going to know you're not, as pre-registered cars often still have the latest number plates - these effectively new cars come with the type of price you'd expect on a used car. So if you want a new car but like the idea of saving thousands, this could be the way to do it.

Alternatively, if you're on a tighter budget, or want even more car for your money, used cars can make even more sense - you can also check out some of our best deals on 2020 cars. Yes, the car may not look like it's rolled straight out of the factory, but in exchange you can typically save yourself many thousands more - even compared with a pre-reg car. You can also choose to buy your next car at a specific time of year to make the most of seasonal changes in car prices.

Since modern cars are so well engineered, safe and long-lasting, even choosing a five-year-old car that has covered 50,000 miles should offer you many years of problem-free motoring. Below we've rounded up our selection of the best pre-reg and used deals on offer right now.

Keep reading to find the best deals on cars in stock that are available to order now for delivery to your door. Not only do you get to avoid new car dealer pricing but you also don't have to worry about the safety implications of travelling around the country going to showrooms following the coronavirus outbreak.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV deals

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2.0 GX4h Auto201545,333£14,299

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a large plug-in hybrid SUV with an element of off-road capability. The pre-update version of the Outlander PHEV we're looking at here doesn't benefit from the improved engine and battery setup seen in later versions, but it is extraordinarily affordable as a result.

As a plug-in hybrid, the best fuel economy will be found during short-distance journeys where you can make full use of the hybrid system's electric driving capability. Mitsubishi claims it should be good for up to 30 miles of zero-emission travel, but once that battery runs out you can expect to hit between 40-50mpg, which is likely to be less than an economical diesel alternative.

But, if you're after a cheap and comfortable SUV that will help you to run your weekly errands without using any fuel, the Outlander PHEV could be an exciting option.

Audi A5 Sportback deals

2017 Audi A5 Sportback deals from £16,358
Monthly finance from £246*

Audi A5 2.0 TDI Ultra S line201736,288£22,100

The Audi A5 Sportback is a surprisingly practical five-door hatchback that still manages to maintain the sporty appearance of the decidedly less practical A5 Coupe. If you're looking for a sleek and desirable car that's going to look great on your driveway but also prove useful day to day, this is one of your best options.

When it comes to the A5 range, the exterior styling and the interior quality are where it really shines. It's also full of modern and expensive technology; this car costs between £40,000-£60,000 when its brand new, so used deals available for around half that price look to be an absolute steal. Even in its cheapest form, A5 Sportback models are equipped with LED daytime running lights, a seven-inch touchscreen media system, three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors and a host of safety features including autonomous emergency braking. Opting for Sport or S line models adds a whole lot more to the mix.

In terms of engines, the A5 Sportback is available with diesel and petrol options. The 2.0-litre TDI Ultra diesel is the most economical, it's capable of reaching 60mpg, while there is also a more powerful 3.0-litre diesel alongside a quick but still relatively efficient 2.0-litre petrol engine. The A5 Sportback is a smooth and comfortable cruiser regardless of which engine you have.

Hyundai Ioniq 100kW Premium2021261£26,200

If you're looking for value for money, used car deals don't get much better than a pre-registered Hyundai Ioniq Electric saving you almost £7,000 off the cost of a brand new one. Besides the great price, there are plenty of other reasons why you might be interested in the Ioniq, especially if you're keen to try out electric car.

For a start, the Ioniq Electric is a hugely spacious and comfortable car with plenty of room for a family of five and decent boot space besides. The 38kWh battery is capable of reaching up to 193 miles of range from a single charge in optimal conditions, which is pretty good for an electric car at this price. If you haven't driven a new car for a while, the interior feels modern but familiar, there's nothing too drastic to get used to like you might find in other electric models.

The interior is very well equipped, too. An eight-inch touchscreen media system is standard on all models, along with sat-nav, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. But perhaps the best part about the Ioniq Electric is, once you've bought it, it's going to cost you very little more aside from insurance to run. Charging times are good, too, with an 80% rapid charge taking just under an hour, while a full 100% charge can be undertaken in a little over six hours.

DS 3 Cabrio deals

DS 3 Cabrio 1.2 PureTech 130 Prestige201635,900£7,999

Even at the more affordable end of the scale, you don't have to sacrifice style and enjoyment. The DS 3 Cabrio is a small convertible-ish hatchback that's centered on standing out from the crowd. Anyone who likes to be different is going to enjoy turning heads with this quirky little car.

The DS 3 began life as the Citroen DS3, but 2016 models benefited from updates to the exterior design and a slightly more modern seven-inch touchscreen media system. It's perfect for anyone trying to enjoy their time behind the wheel while also saving some cash. The convertible roof is more of an extended sunroof than a full-on soft top, with the electric canvas top sliding forwards and backwards at the touch of a button.

It was only ever available with three doors, but there is a good amount of space in the back seats for two adults to sit comfortably, while 285 litres of boot space is good for a car of this size. Models with the 130hp 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine add an element of enjoyment to the driving experience, while also proving to be reasonably economical.
